Nice songs
you are allready living in eternity and so you shall continue when you go home. Yes its that magic moment of eternal existance speaking to your heart.
I just listened again after 50 years and I'm not coping any better now than I did then! I was called up for National Service in Australia in 1969 and during recruit training we were always either too busy or too tired to listen to the radio, except on Sundays, our day off. It was such a lonely day because we had time to think; to miss family and girlfriends. Then that bloody song would play and you'd try to not let anyone see the tears in your eyes. Somebody's tape recorder would play "Don't it make you wanna go home now, don't it make you wanna go home," and you'd hear a chorus of "F........n oath it does."
R.I.P. Harry van Hoof who co-wrote this song.

Remember this very well Described me too scarily well. Thanks for finding and posting btw , 76 now
This song has a special meaning for me. I spent some of my early childhood growing up in the rural South. I have a special feeling and kinship for the South, its beauty and way of life back in the 50’s. Back then it was a hauntingly beautiful place that finds its way into your soul and leaves an indelible mark. And yes, it does make me wanna go home.
I still have this 45 record.
I was in the class of '76 at Edgewood High School in West Covina, CA. Interesting fact, Edgewood was somehow the first Bicentennial High School in the US.
Beautiful song. Most of his were. Comments I read remind me of Revelations 21:3-4. If you don’t know them look them up while you have your e-device in your hand. Enjoy.
Class of 76' brings back memories 😢
Good one for Earth Day
What theeee
I bet joe was cool guy , rest in peace joe.
Joe South cut two versions of Boondock's. This is the far rarer version. The difference (basically is that the hook here is done with the guitar while the more common version uses the horn section. There are other differences, of course, but that's the crux of it. As for Hush- I have always thought South's version was far superior to Deep Purple's (which I love!). Joe South bought his FUNK to the recording (which he wrote, of course). His talent was multifaceted and boundless. He wrote ''Walk A Mile In My Shoes'' and successfully battles The King, himself, to a draw! Elvis must have had a profound experience with performing the song as it was a regular part of his early 70's set list.
Reminds me of my sister. She loved this song as a teenager.
The first song I ever heard from Joe South was the games people played and then the others just fell into place but my favorite was Concrete Jungle. It fit to where I was working at you were just a slave and you made Pennies on the dollar and everything was supposed to be wonderful while you work there and none of that yet a lot of backstabbers too and I used to play that every so often in my office I get it high enough where management would come over and said would you turn that thing down the people are trying to work and I said you slave drivers and they loved it management didn't care much of it I didn't know what they really cared much of while I was there Concrete Jungle
I feel the same way as Carolyn Sondermann and I am a firm believer, too.
Love this song.❤❤❤
I listened to this in1977 as a 13 year old kid in Douglas WyomingI still listen to it to this day on my work out playlist!

There are two kinds of people. Those who are Scottish & those who wish they were.
I was 5 when this came out, which means my mother was 25. And I remember being with her and my sister at a house party somewhere with this song playing.

You can never go home.
I hear this song and immediately think of IT from Stephen King. He makes a reference to this song when he is about to star telling the story of the adults. What a great writer.
Gives me chills every time I listen to it😢
🙏
Did this get air play. I can't believe I don't recall hearing in '73
You can never go home
Yes, it makes me wanna go home. But since those years are long gone, I want to go to a far better place; my home in heaven.
We walked around with a transistor radio all summer and would freak out when our local station played this !!! Best of days, best of friends !!! Can never be matched today !!!
Lovely old gem 🎸🎶💜
Today, after forty plus years, was the first time I rediscovered this song quite accidentally. Took me back to my high school back in India!
